Hello Friends,
Very sad looking down at Dee Why this morning. Just about nothing showing at the point or the beach. I’m reasonably sure you couldn’t surf it with anything under about the 9 foot mark.
MHL’s Sydney buoy is currently showing about a metre of east windswell. The average period is just 8 seconds. As with yesterday, there is some long period stuff in the mix. However, I couldn’t see signs of anything resembling the 11 second period component showing on the buoy data.
Wind is currently out of the NW but the Bureau says it should swing around to the NE this afternoon.
The outlook for the next week in Sydney remains uninspiring. Basically, it looks as though we’ll be lucky to find much of anything above waist high. Maybe the models will be wrong… maybe… but if you had to pick a week to be away from the beach, this might be the one…
Ah well, your correspondent is happy to be back in Sydney again anyway.
Have yourself a top old day, and stay happy!

Hello Friends,
Looks as though we’re in for another breezy day. The Bureau says we’re in for 25-33 kts of W-NW wind. It should gradually ease toward dusk. Of course a couple days of blasting winds is not doing the minimal swell any favours. The numbers, however, are better than yesterday’s.
After crashing to around 5 seconds on the power setting, average period is a slightly better 9 seconds. Mind you, it’s still only averaging a metre at sea and, worse, it’s dead south. At well exposed beaches, you might possibly find the odd waist high bomb set. For the most part though, you can expect smaller than that. Figure knee high and you should be about right.
Yesterday turned pretty busy on me, so I missed getting to the outlook… maybe today will be better…
Hope you’re in for a top old day. Go well!

Hello Friends,
Had a pretty gloomy old start to the day for Sydneysiders. But given the ocean’s state, it won’t have mattered to many folks. Wind was out of the east at 10-15kts when I sat down to tap out these words. The trough up north that is now giving the long-suffering Sunny coast surfers something other than abject flatness (see the daily pics), is not yet delivering anything down our way. However, the Bureau says that it currently thinks the trough will become a low and that by Friday it could be east of Sydney.
Accordingly, they’ve hoisted the pennants for increased winds today and stronger again tomorrow. By close of play this evening, we could be looking at 20-25 kts of E-NE wind buffeting our stretch of coast. The seas will push up of course, but it doesn’t look as though we can expect the period setting to move much from its current 7 sec position.
If the low does come south, the winds will be onshore from the E-SE at 20-30kt from tomorrow through Thursday. As the wind accelerates, the swell will push up and with luck it’ll be possible to find spots to tuck out of the wind for a few fun ones.
Looks pretty promising for the Snowy McAlister to have waves this weekend. Hope so, ’cause I’d like to get some vid if I can.
Get out there and make the most of your day and stay in touch!
