We have a pulse

Published by Don under Surf reports

Dee Why point unoccupied
Hello Friends,

This morning Sydney wakes to a little south pulse. It’s nothing extraordinary at spots like Dee Why, but you can see the lines and a glance at the current run of the MHL stats, reveals we’re currently in receipt of 2 metres of 9-10 sec south swell. My advice is to get in now if you can because if our experience is anything like Batemans Bay and Eden’s were yesterday and overnight, the peak of the pulse won’t last too long and the swell will start to fade back toward the 1 metre mark.

With luck, we’ll see the energy levels perk up again tomorrow as a longer lasting pulse follows this in from the south.

The wind should stay at reasonable levels compared to yesterday’s. Expect S-SW 5-10 kts.

Get out there if you can, and have yourself a top old day!

Nice little set wave at DY beach

Dee Why offering more options

Hello Friends,

Huey’s moved things around again overnight. The swell heights at sea have dropped from an average of three to two metres, but the period has bumped up from 8 to nearly 10 seconds and the direction, crucially for many Sydney region beaches, has moved toward the SE.

Wind is west to NW depending on where you’re standing and the speeds are 8-10 kts. It should stay this way inshore for the rest of the day. Not bad at all.

Sets toward the middle of the Dee Why to Longy stretch are around the shoulder high mark on the bigger ones. It wasn’t super crowded either. Nothing was really showing at the point and no one seemed to be in the water there.

I’ll try to get another forecast out for you later today, but what I can say without really digging into it, is that we look like staying well supplied with surfable conditions right through the coming week along most of the east coast. Those of you in Victoria will be seeing quite a bit more activity than us and the same can be said of west coast NZ. Some serious systems brewing in the southern ocean…

Have yourself a top old day!

We have more waves

Nice little a-frame at DY

Hello Friends,

How good is this? Another day of waves opens ahead of us. Yes, it’s smaller again, but there are still sets into the shoulder high range at Dee Why. A reasonable size crowd is out enjoying it too, but I reckon jagging the odd wave wouldn’t be too difficult. The difference between this time yesterday and now is that it’s maybe 0.5 of a metre smaller on average. It’s also around to the east and Huey has nudged the period setting down to 9 sec.

As the day gets started, the wind is not yet a factor.  It’s not set to get up to much either. The current call is for it to wander from the NW around to the SW but not really get much above the 13kt mark on gusts this arvo.

The Bureau has confirmed what the models were showing a few days ago, namely that it’s likely we’ll have another low spinning up just in time for the weekend. It’s not set to be as impressive as last weekend, but it looks as though it should deliver 3-4 metres of 9 sec south swell - and 20-25 kts of SSW wind.

Are we smiling?

Have yourself a top old day and get a few waves if you can.

(D’you tweet? I’m just getting into it as mrRealSurf)
